According to a new study published by November’s edition of the journal Diabetologia, people with diabetes who develop foot ulcers are at more risk of dying prematurely than those without the complication. Researchers from St George’s University of London investigated the correlation between diabetic foot ulcers and death rate. The study showed there were 58 extra deaths per 1,000 people each year with diabetic foot ulcers.
Robert Hinchliffe from St George’s, University of London stated “we suspect that this may be due in part to the effect of infections with foot ulcers and co-existence of cardiovascular disease with diabetes.”

18 year old Rae Heim, from Carroll, Iowa, finished her run across the United States barefoot, a journey of more than 3000 miles. She began her journey in Boston on April 1, and crossed the finish line on Nov.14th at the Manhattan Beach Boulevard in California.
