Description: Marky Mark's ingrowing toenail: Ellen DeGeneres got to inspect the results of Wahlberg's nail removal on her titular show this Thursday Actor Mark Wahlberg had an ingrown toenail removed on his right big toe. Wahlberg showcased his toe post-surgery on the Ellen Degeneres show and appears to be making a good recovery. Wahlberg had suffered from toe pain since last year and decided to have the nail removed on Thursday during a trip home. “The thing was just growing the wrong way,” Wahlberg said, “and the guy, Mickey O’Keefe, who played himself in The Fighter, his daughter-in-law, thank God, is a podiatrist (and she) came and cut half my toenail off,” said Wahlberg.

Receiving proper foot care is extremely important, and your toes should not be excluded from that care.  If you think you have sustained a toe injury such as an ingrown toenail, you should seek out a podiatrist such as Dr. Henry Slomowitz of New Jersey.  Dr. Slomowitz can diagnose any injuries that you might have and provide you with treatment options that work for you.

Ingrown Toenails Causes

Ingrown toenails occur when a toenail grows sideways into the bed of the nail, causing pain, swelling, and possibly infection.

There are a number of risk factors for ingrown toenails. Some include cutting your nails too short, participating in strenuous sports, diabetes, obesity, and fungal infection. Some are genetically predisposed to ingrown nails, although wearing ill-fitting or damp shoes can exacerbate the problem.

Treatment

There are a number of steps you can take:

-Let your toenails grow out
-Soak the toes in hot water with antibiotic soap or Epsom salts
-Placing a piece of cotton under affected nail may allow toe to grow up
-Rest with feet up

If however, your pain is severe, or you see red streaks running up your leg, you should see a podiatrist. Your podiatrist may make a small incision and remove part of the toe nail to relieve the pressure.
