An educational event held by Mary Washington Hospital called “Diabetic You” taught local residents who have diabetes about how to keep themselves healthy and deal with their disease. One of the participants, 62-yeard-old Valerie Lewis, has been diabetic since she was 24. “Knowing you have diabetes and doing the right thing about it, is hard,” Lewis said.
“I’ve only recently been doing what I shoulda to a T”. Also in attendance was chef Charles Mattocks, who has diabetes as well. Mattocks was touring to promote his book “Eat Cheap but Eat Well,” and stopped by to offer some healthy recipes that are good for diabetics.

Danish researchers with the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine have found evidence that supports that the frequency of injuries in runners is affected by factors like weight and age.
In a study of 930 new runners conducted six months ago, the scientists found that 254 of the subjects sustained soft-tissue or bone injuries. They found that older runners were the first who were most likely to get hurt, followed by those who were heavy-set. They also determined that having a more docile personality was a common trait in those who managed to go without injury.
